We feel very unhappy with your “Drug bust at Israel airport, Hasidic Jews arrested.”
You got all the details right, but we can’t escape the feeling that this is again part of AP having it in for Israel and Israeli Hasidic Jews. Is this news flash disproportional and therefore scapegoat certain groups? Let’s investigate.
The Left-Wing Haaretz: http://www.haaretz.com/misc/search-results . It seems that every month or so there is a cocaine burst in Israel with no particular over-representation of ‘Hasidic Jews.’
The relatively more Right-Wing Jerusalem Post: http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/SearchResults.aspx?q=cocaine . Same picture.
Now AP: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/external/search.hosted.ap.org/wireCoreTool/Search?SITE=MABED&query=cocaine . It seems that cocaine is smuggled everywhere. But nowhere is mentioned the religious stand of the criminals.
What’s next – Jews cause traffic jams all over Israel? Religious Jew arrested in family dispute in Jerusalem? Seems to us that AP would not write “Blacks in Uganda caught stealing ….”
In Israeli media the religious affiliation of a suspect might be relevant. Outside Israel it looks as just another opportunity to besmirch Jews. Especially in an epoch in which Israel is under attack (unfairly) all the time. Please be more sensitive and wiser.
