Elton John aside, Israelis feel growing isolation

Dear Editor,

What can we say about the early version of “Elton John aside, Israelis feel growing isolation”? It was short, it was blend, and the visit was presented as an exception to all the stars that didn’t perform in Israel, rather than a heartwarming gesture from a top-entertainer. It quoted him saying “We don’t cherry-pick our conscience.” What would that mean? It made more sense when we saw the report in the Jerusalem Post of June 20:

The Jerusalem daily quoted the guest performer as saying: “Shalom, we are so happy to be back here! Ain’t nothing gonna stop us from coming, baby,” spouted John with a pumped fist in the air. “Musicians spread love and peace, and bring people together. That’s what we do. We don’t cherry-pick our conscience.” In fact, the paper version of the article had as byline: “Musicians don’t cherry-pick our conscience, we spread love and peace, and bring people together.” Such a powerful mission statement. AP censored it into a pathetic nothing.
But guess what. after a full day having this short, dull report, AP expended the initial report over the weekend, made it four times longer, and then dropped it, only to be found in other outlets. There Elton John is quoted in full, but the quote is drowned out by a whole slew of quotes from who’s who in extreme Left wing Israel (we have our own loony left). Now the Jewish State is portrayed as rightfully having lost the battle to keep her good name. We call that chutzpah – slandering Israel around the clock and then quoting her critics to justify the mud-slinging.

(It reminds us of the early Church persecuting the Jews & then using their bloody “fate” as a proof for that they must have lost their privileged status with the L-rd, Heaven forbid.)

AP is ready to mar any positive news from Israel. Not just ready – AP delivers. Competing with Reuters who’s the world’s top anti-Israel hatemonger? For what we can see, at the moment it’s a race too close to call.
