Dear AP editor,
I’m stunned with disbelieve and horror that I just found the following two sentences, the first its opening words, in a fresh AP report by SAMEER N. YACOUB, Associated Press Writer:
BAGHDAD – Saddam Hussein’s notorious cousin “Chemical Ali” was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging on Sunday for ordering the gassing of Kurds in 1988, killing more than 5,000 in the worst such attack ever against civilians.
The gassing of the town was considered the most extensive use of chemical weapons on civilians in history.
I KNOW that this is an oversight and that you will correct this quickly.
You must know that it really hurt to read this from my favorite, widely respected news provider – also the source of much news for my daily newspaper the Jerusalem Post.
There is much Holocaust denial, but I didn’t expected it in an AP report, not even by accident, which might explain my shock.
Please take measures to prevent such blunders in the future.
